[Restaurant Review] From the people behind Thonglor’s La Dotta comes their new spot nestled around the corner from Asoke BTS – La Dotta La Grassa! Chef Francesco’s authentic Italian cooking mixes with a fantasy flair to create innovative dishes.
After the success of La Dotta in Thonglor, husband-and-wife restaurateurs Choti and Debby Leenutaphong (known together as Foodie Collection) have established a new but similar restaurant, La Dotta La Grassa. It still features the pasta the made it so successful at Thonglor, but with an overall new look and different space.
Lovely lavender stools sit beside a black marble-top bar, with a wash of blue and white being the colours of the day. Overhead you will gaze upon a variety of lamps, which as a venue is suitable for lunch or dinner.
Adding valiantly to Bangkok’s fresh daily made pasta scene, the restaurant eschews the packet pasta of the fast-food world. Here you will find pasta that is made manually or perhaps from their ever present La Monferrina, known to be the Ferrari of pasta machines. It is perhaps quite obvious to say, that the taste advantage lies primarily in the fresh pasta being made daily at La Dotta La Grassa.
The venue is helmed by head chef Luca Capitanio of La Dotta and Italian chef-partner Francesco of Via Maris. Together they drive an impressive venue fuelled by the creative accomplishments exiting the kitchen door. La Dotta La Grassa is lovingly stocked higher shelf plates such as Australian wagyu, Slow-cooked crispy skin suckling pig, and Grilled Spanish ‘carabineros’ prawns.’
La Dotta La Grassa manages to differentiate itself from the family by allowing a greater degree of creativity when compared to it’s Thonglor sibling. It’s an eatery that will help Asoke lift its restaurant game by bringing taste, style and experience to an area that is filled with uninspiring tourists eats. Almost every ingredient is imported from Italy, if you love real Italian cooking, do yourself a favour and visit soon.
